(Demo) PSP Flash Zelda

Alright, a while ago I released a small Zelda demo with a few rooms and enemies. The demo was pretty slow, running at about 15 frames per second. I was using an inefficient collision detection system. I actually scrapped the whole engine and started from scratch. I created a tilebased collision system and the game runs a whole lot faster at about 28-30 frames per sec. Its actually a little too fast, but that might change with the addition of enemies and other things to process.
All thats in the demo is a collision testing debug room and the ability to use the sword. Next demo will have tiled levels (rather than the green block) and test enemies.

EDIT: Oh and those of you who are worried about the change to one button gameplay, Ive come up with a solution.
When near an npc (like talking to it) you can interact with it by holding the X button down like you would hold it to charge your sword. To use other weapons like arrows or bombs, you can open a menu by moving your mouse outside of the corner of the screen. The newly selected weapon will replace the sword until you reselect it.

Re: (Demo) PSP Flash Zelda

Alright, a little bit of good news and bad news...
I just finished the enemy hit detection script which goes along with the enemy system.
The hit detection script works perfectly fine as far as I can see, I just haven't added health to the enemies or a dying animation. The bad news is that there is a pretty noticeable slow down in the frame rate when you have more than 2 enemies in the room. I will have to limit each room to 1 or 2 enemies at a time. Keep in mind that I will also have to add other objects like projectiles and npcs which can also lag up.

Re: (Demo) PSP Flash Zelda

Wow, this is turning out pretty nice. You should like release the game once you have the first boss to take a break then add more levels later on. Maybe have like passworded levels because saved files might be too hard?

Re: (Demo) PSP Flash Zelda

Thanks for the support you guys!

And Im sorry duelord, I cant send you the source code, I can give you some pointers at the most. Also, it is illegal to try to decompile or take the source code of a compiled flash file (an swf) without the permission of the author.

Re: (Demo) PSP Flash Zelda

Like you would have copyrighted it...

It might not be the best thing to do, but opening it yourself surely isn't illegal, unless you have copyrights. And don't you think Nintendo has copyrighted Zelda already? big_smile

But, who cares, just keep going with this amazing project!

You are partly right. The Zelda graphics and idea are copyrighted by nintendo but the actual source code is MY property and taking it without my permission is breaking the law. And there are laws that protect situations like this. I can get a link to an article or two about this but it really isnt important. The point Im trying to make is, the source code is my property, dont try to steal it. Thanks.
