It's been a few days since i've worked on this but today I pulled it up and started working on it again.  I'm going to have a selection of 5-10 cars.  I've already started coding upgrade functions and stuff, but I need help deciding what cars to use...because if it's left up to me...well all of them would be corvettes and you'd instant win every race big_smile and that wouldn't be fun now would it?  So only 1 corvette will be in the game (maybe 2 hehe).  So throw out some names of some cars you'd like to see. Of course i'll change the names and graphics slightly in the game for legal purposes big_smile.  Im going to make this game exclusive for this site and mine (of course, that is, when I finish it my site big_smile).
Oh btw got a 8gb memory card today...it's sweet lol.
Oh yeah BTW2 any ideas for a name ...

Oh yeah something else i forgot  *shields face from projectiles* I might not(almost certainly won't actually) do free roaming since the amount of tiles im going to need for the city (probably would of been a town big_smile) + the tiles for the race tracks are starting to load the game down... so it will be a menu driven race selection type of game instead...kinda like the first nfs underground. Sorry guys... Good news is i'll make a track editor to make up for the loss of free roam . not sure if it will be in game, seperate swf on psp, or on the comp yet. Most likely comp so it can be more in depth.
Sheesh that was a long post.  It's like posting constipation, if you wait a few days it's gonna hurt (in this case the fingers) and it's gonna be alot. lol...my mind goes crazy at midnight!

I don't have any ideas for a racing game name...

But how many types of map will there be?

Just the town style or like, snow, jungle, ect?

And can the cars explode or break down if you do too much damage?

It's not even hyper it's me unloading my brain before going to sleep.  You guys keep giving more things to do in the form of questions lol...I'm not sure how many types of tracks there will be,  since like i said before the amount of tiles i had for free roam were bogging down the framerate, but i'll try to make more than one (no promises on that one).  As for the breaking down and such that have to wait till near the end of development.

Hmph...I have always liked making my games very efficient coding wise...but the psp is just not able to handle it...so this game is dead...j/k! got ya!  I've already changed it to bitmap based maps which are handling collision surpirsingly faster than my tile engine...wierd lol.
Heres some stats that i got from the 2 versions. d2 = tile based  d3 = bitmap based

d2 - set fps = 15
       actual fps = 4 <--BAD BAD BAD

d3 - set fps = 15
     actual = 8 <-- may seem like 53% is bad, but it runs fairly smooth.

When i say bitmap based I don't actually mean "bmp" but everything thats a picture is considered "bitmap" to flash...

What this all means to you guys...
1. The games going to run much smoother.
2. Tiles based map maker = kapooey
3. BUT!  There will still be a way to make your own maps for the game big_smile.


Now i must be reminded of something that im too busy/lazy to find myself since im working on this right now.

I know psp wont support flash loading an outside swf(s)...correct?
But will it allow flash to load txt or pictures?  I've been working in AS3 alot lately b4 i started this...so i dont remember all of the psp's limitations big_smile.

Edit: Ok, i've been working on the map editor and it's just not working with the collision i have set up...like i said before everything that would work fine for me...dosn't work on the psp lol.  So maybe no map editor for now...untill i'm done then i can think about it again.  Really sucks because i had a really neat collision-map/editor that I made that I wanted to implement in one of my games...lol maybe i'll put it in my next game.

I expect to get another demo up with 1 map, collisions, free upgrades so you guys can test them, and 2 cars to try out, all hopefully by the 7th.
Sorry guys, more disapointments...no map editor how sad...

Ok guys if guys have flash and want to make a map for the game go ahead...
I don't use liveswif, so sorry im not going to deal with liveswif.
Heres the specs for it if you want to make one...

1. save it as a flash 8 fla or cs3 fla.  If you can't save it that new...save it as the newest version as you can.
2. the track needs to be 100-150 pixels wide...it can be smaller but the car is 30 px wide.  The size of the enitre track can be whatever size... but try to keep it under 3000px X 3000px
3.Can be any theme, so if you want to make it snow or dirt or...space it's fine.
4.Be creative.
5.Any area you want to be off track leave transparent.  If you want to have a grass or whatever for a background make a seperate symbol to put it in.  The car will go very slow in these areas so leave it transparent.
6. Not all mpas submited will be put in the game.
7. If i do put it in the game, i'll put you in the credits.
8. submit as many as you want.
9. You can send the maps in fla form to my e-mail admin@boblegion.com
or if you need to send me multiple files pm me and i can set up a ftp account on my site.

I figured i'd let you guys make something for the game since you guys are always volunteering to help with the games on this site.  Also if you want to make cars for the game go ahead.  The dimensions are 30px wide by 60px can be slightly different, but close to that. Like the above you'll be in the credits.

the only collisions im checking for are to determine if the car is on the road or not.

Cool, I hope some people make some maps!  I got the upgrades started and working, but it's going to be laggy on the upgrades menu, since it uses a tree component which also inflated the file size to 76kb.  Im doing my best to keep the framerate up but it fluctuates from 6-11 fps right now...  Good thing is it's mostly just adding info (i.e. cars, upgrades, and maps), not much fresh coding, right now.
After i've done those things i'll make waypoints for the maps and make the timer/map time component visible (it's already done, just not on the screen).  Then lastly i'll clean up the graphics.  Hopefully after all that it'll run at a good fps.

It's weird, my slim lags for once more than my fat....

Hmm... thats interesting, maybe I uploaded the wrong version.  My slim is usually at 9 fps with that version.  My friend is going to test it out on his slim.  What exactly were you doing when it dropped to 5 fps? Was it when it had just started?  Are you playing online or did you download it?

I checked, the file is the demo and not one my test versions, so it's not that.
