Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
what you described seems to be like Portal (awesome game). Is it similar to this?

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
In some ways it is similar as in you teleport to different areas of the level, you cannot set those areas though.
I have included a screenshot of the game running a level I used to test the engine
Currently the character is Bob from Jelly, this is as he does the job for testing the engine, and I have not got around to coming up with a new character yet.
I am currently designing a level for the release of this game and tidying the game up, I am hoping to have something ready this weekend but I am unsure of how much time I will have.

Looking forward to it. If you supply me with a sprite sheet it'd be fab.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
I don't like the checkered background. Add something like a soft calm gradient, it hurts my eyes now.
Games I support:
Super ShyGuy Universe, Loco Roco Bounce, Zuriki's Traveller, Teleport.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
The checkered background is just 1 tile, it has been used so much as this is a test level (to test that the engine functions correctly). that particular tile is based on ones found in Sonic the hedgehog.

That screenshot looks good but smooth down the background...
once you've finished this you should make Chip's Challenge in flash for PSP xD
that would be AWESOME!

Wow. THIS IS FREAKIN' AWESOME. I can't wait. I can design tiles for you (don't worry Zuriki, if he lets me, I'll give you a sheet...) and design levels.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
I will get the tile sheet released asap, probably not tonight but I will try tomorrow. At the moment the only way I can release it would be as an fla, however the game can load external swf and jpeg files. as the screenshot above shows the tile size is 16x16 pixels so there is nothing stopping you developing those (if you email them to me I may also put them in the game. email: dev( at )pspflashgaming.com).
I am currently working on a feature that imports an swf with many frames (each tile on a different frame), however this is not looking all that promising. I do have a new method to try although this will delay the game so I am not progressing with this yet.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
I was thinking of custom character support as this would not be that difficult to implement.
If anyone wants to design characters then the following would be useful:
-Frame rate 20fps
-Area available 16X16 pixels
-Frame 1 character in right direction
-Frame 2 character in the left direction

Frame 1 - Right Idle
Frame 2 - Left Idle
Frame 3 - Right Movement
Frame 4 - Left Movement
Is that ok?

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
I'm working on one now... I was thinking Custom Char too. Maybe, we can have multiple, and have the one currently in use as a special unlockable, or for us helpers?

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
Ok it is more of an alpha or engine demo but here is something for you to try.
Download Teleport Alpha 1
Instructions
- Control the character using the left and the right keys
- Change the position of the info bar with the up and down keys
- Teleport by pressing the X button when on a teleport square
- When on a teleport square a blue "T" icon apears in the info bar
- Some teleport squares require something (in the demo 1 teleporter needs a red key), you need that item before you can teleport. In the demo another teleport gives you the red key though I am not telling which one.
- When you have completed the level a Complete screen will appear.
The demo is hard coded to load the level "LEVEL.TELEPORT" from the directory "LEVEL", if you want to see what a level file looks like (at the moment) that is where you will find it (will open in notepad).
I have to stress this is a demo there is a lot more to the game than can be seen here such as External tile image support, ability to load a selected level and of course there is the level editor I had to use to make the demo level.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
Lol I was reading through 'LEVEL.TELEPORT' and I was wondering if on
&lev3=
If I got rid of 302,302,302 and replaced with 4,4,4 would the character fall.
I did it and found that the character didn't fall which I was slightly disappointed about because this means there can be now areas where you go through a teleport and drop down a tunnel.
I would suggest some simple falling code and have bridges that are acitvated by switches.
Double the awesomeness!

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
I do have script that will enable the character to fall, however then you have a huge problem with the frame rate, as the frame rate goes down the character moves more pixels in 1 frame, as a result you have to check more tiles to see if the character will fall on a tile which has a knock on effect on the frame rate.
I can add this as a feature however I would have to limit velocity in the y direction to 8 pixels per frame. I will add it to the engine as a feature that can be turned on and off by the level (for frame rate issues), it should not take me long as I have the code in a different project that Teleport came from.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
Hey, I like it. It's good. MAybe you can get a section in user uploads to upload our levels from the level editor, and have multiple characters? Also, maybe we could hae a character creator?

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport
Nice, it's an interesting game. Although I don't like the Teleport bit with all the flash pixels then the rubbish font... but its still awesome!
P.S. did you use gfx from 'Ballistic'? (its a breakout type game)
