New Game on the way, Teleport

I decided that it is about time i began a thread for this game. I have been working for ages on a tile based platform engine for the PSPs flash player (when I say ages I mean nearly 2 years) and I have finaly got a game underway using it. The engine side of things is 100% complete and working well and I am working on a level builder as it would take far to long to make a level without one. Also how would the online level downloader be any good if members of the comunity can not make levels.

Any way more about the game, the player is only able to move in a horizontal direction and must find their way out of the level by teleporting to different sections of the level (the level is a static screen made up of tiles which are 16X16 pixels). However some of the teleporting tiles require the player to have a certain immunity that they gain from other teleports for example immunity to fire. So the player must find the corect sequence of teleports to get to the end of the level.

The levels are saved as text files and can be loaded in to the game, there is a loader so you can browse the memory stick for a level to play. There will also be some kind of online level (for example updated every week) and hopefully an online portal to find levels.

Once I have the level editor ready I will post a beta, this will not contain the online stuff just the game engine and level editor. I will be looking for developers for this game, mainly to design tiles and levels, the game engine is capable of loading external tile designs (jpeg or flash files) so devs have 100% controll over the look of a level, I also intend to include a few hundred tiles built in to the engine which will take time.

As you can imagine this is a huge project and unfortunatly do not expect a full release for a while however there is an alpha on the horizon so keep an eye on this thread for futher information and hopefully some content in the next couple of weeks, hopefully before then.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport

I am still making progress on this, the level editor is quite time consuming and also i have been incredibly busy of late, hopefully i will have an open weekend soon to complete the level editor and release this.

Teleport, eh? Sounds great. What's the game going to be like? Like Portal or something? Hopefully I can make some levels.

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport

Ok so it looks like I announced this way to early, after I sat down and started making the level editor I realized that this is not going to be as quick as I had hoped. It does not help that I seem to have little time these days (and I seem to have way to many toys to distract me as well).

On the plus side I have made significant progress on the level editor in the past few days and to release a demo of the game (well the concept) requires only 1 level. This means once I have the functionality of the level editor sorted I can knuckle down and Make a level.

In the past I have found setting myself a deadline for a release means I actually get round to doing some work on it. The deadline for the Demo is going to be roughly when PSPFLASHGAMING.com is 2 years old which is 25/04/2008.

I test all games on PSP while I am developing them and so far I have not had a problem on the original or the slim PSP and I am also confident that there is enough memory for more features in this game.

I actually got the level builder to the point where I can use it (still needs some work as it is in no way user friendly). I intend to spend some time tomorrow building up the tile library for the game and fingers crossed have some form of preview ready as there is no evidence of this being a real thing yet.

Those who would be interested in developing levels should probably pm me as the level builder will need testing before I can actually release it (it is written in flash but designed to run on a pc as the output needs to be saved to a text file to load in to the game).

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport

Looks like I may even beat my deadline on this one, I am in the process of tidying the demo up prior to release. I have my fingers crossed on this one for the weekend.

Please keep in mind that this is more of a technical demo at the moment, I am in the process of creating lots of tiles for the game (the engine loads 16X16 pixel tiles) although the engine is capable of loading external swf and jpeg files, in time there will be an online section for the game and a released level editor (not beta).

Re: New Game on the way, Teleport

have you looked into tonypa's tutorials?  I'm pretty sure there was a level editor there, because most if the tutorials there are for tile based platformers.
Btw Jake do you have CS3? If so have you made anything in Flash 9 yet?
