Homebrew for dummies
Hi,
I have a PSP (ver. 2.80); I have a lot of experience with computers but don't understand all the PSP stuff, especially homebrew.
I want to use my PSP to download games (ie emulators, etc.) onto it and for some sort of GPS thingy; I don't mind having to downgrade, etc. as long as I'm told exactly how to do it
I was wondering if you guys knew the best option for me to do and if there's a good guide for a guy like me to pursue this noble cause

Re: Homebrew for dummies
Hello Hubster, and welcome to our forums!
If you need help downgrading, we're here to tell you what to do. Just make sure that you do not update further than 2.80. Now, if you want to downgrade, you should download some files and and put them to your memory stick, and after that do some stuff and you will be in 1.5 firmware, which can run homebrew. There are just a few things I need to know before telling you more: how big is your memory stick and what motherboard does your PSP have. (Check that by opening the UMD drive. There are letters and numbers (IC10003) on the right side if you have the newer motherboard, but the older has those markings on the left side, or not at all.)
So, after that I can tell you everything you need to know about downgrading, homebrew usage, emulators, using the GPS after downgrading, or anything else regarding your PSP.
You could also add me on MSN, jaxerir(a)hotmail.com or on AIM JaXeRiR

Re: Homebrew for dummies
I suggest downgrading either with the unpatched versions of liberty city stories or lumines. These ways are very safe 99.9%
if you hv questions you can add me to your msn duelord(at)gmail.com
one of us could assist you in the steps of downgrading.
First give the information JaXeRiR asked you.

Re: Homebrew for dummies
But, easier and of course cheaper way would be to downgrade taking advantage of the 2.80 TIFF exploit. And it is as safe as downgrading with Lumines or GTA, it's made by Dark_Alex as well

Re: Homebrew for dummies
Well, if he doesn't need my help then I'm definitely not going to e-mail anyone.
But if he indeed does come back, then I'll give him the instructions. Or if he adds me on MSN.

Re: Homebrew for dummies
hey guys, is there any way to downgrade from Firmware 2.81? I've been looking on the web but I can only find FW 2.80 downgraders, not 2.81

Re: Homebrew for dummies
@FoShizzle: Yep, like Rollinroll said, it works with any firmware, but you just need a homebrew-enabled (downgraded) PSP to make it. Maybe some of your friends have those?
Or you could buy the battery (DATEL MAX Tool PSP Battery) but you would still need a PSP to make the files, or you could pirate them...
If your firmware is below 3.50, it might be easier to find the Lumines game, unpatched and downgrade with it.

Re: Homebrew for dummies
well I found this guide:
http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-hardwa … ethod.html
And you don't need custom firmware to make the files.

Re: Homebrew for dummies
Yes you need a pandoras battery to downgrade.
And you need custom firmware for emulators. 3.80 M33 custom firmware was just out.
Anyways, you can downgrade without a homebrew-enabled psp.
First buy one of those MAX Tool Batteries then get a program named TotalNewbieEasyinstaller (google it) and itwill mkae the files for you.

Re: Homebrew for dummies
This battery?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Power-Tool- … B000W4HSHC
or this one?
http://www.modchip.it/shop/detail.asp?l … dprod=2089
also in this guide this guy says that you can make a pandora and downgrade a PSP without another homebrew-enabled PSP, and with a normal battery:
