Re: [help] Password finder XP?

1. Download Damn Small Linux, burn it to a disk, then boot with it, find the file here: C:\WINDOWS\repair\Administrator_\ and copy it with Linux to some other folder, then boot back to Windows and use an application called John the Ripper, it will list all the words that the hash can be, and then you just try everyone of those passwords one by one.

2. You could try this: http://www.loginrecovery.com . It is supposed to be a program that works under XP/2000/98/95 and on Admin and User accounts in Windows. It should tell you the password, although I haven't tested it and I can't guarantee that it works.

3. This is a password reseter application: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd which technically should be able to reset/modify the password without getting inside the Admin account.

4. This is a cool trick that works under Windows NT and early versions of Windows 2000. You need Damn Small Linux for this as well. Navigate to C:/WINNT/ and find the application called Explorer.exe and copy it to another folder. Then find LOGON.scr and copy it to another folder as well (not in the same). Rename the copied Explorer.exe to LOGON.scr and replace LOGON.scr in the C:/WINNT/ folder with this file. Then boot the NT/2000 and wait until the logon screensaver should pop-up. Instead of the screensaver the Windows Explorer screen (like My Computer) pops up. Now write "net user administrator 12345" to the address bar. The administrator password is now 12345.

I can't guarantee that these will work but they're just ideas.

Re: [help] Password finder XP?

thank you very much,  i will try your way.

otherwise i will look for a document with .pwl as  an ending. It is supposed to  have all user account pw. you can open the file with pwlreader. i would use this method if the ones above dont work

Re: [help] Password finder XP?

okay i tried looking for the .pwl files  :C/windows/system32

i know they are in there, but i dont hv access to them.

to find path of the .pwl you  can look for C:/windows/system.ini and open that with wordpad.

the NT password recovery extracts the encrypted files.

upload to the decrypter.

thanx for the links

Re: [help] Password finder XP?

You don't have access to them since Windows uses them all the time it is on so you couldn't access them. And the passwords are hashed, so there could be multiple passwords that could be the same hash, but only one would work.
