Shortmage: the journey of the underdog
Hey there people.
I have chosen to start making a turn-based RPG, focusing about a little mage that wants to become the best of the very best.
::STORY::
you play as a short little mage named Ali.
when he was just 5 years old, the evil Ezirath abducted his family. He had nowhere to live, so for 6 more dreadful years, he learned to conduct magic. now he must go to the very top and gather scrolls to learn new moves and hopefully kill the evil Ezirath.
::GAMEPLAY::
the game is turn-based. one problem I am facing is size. I MIGHT have to break down the game in separate chapters in order to play the game. when you fight, sometimes you will gain new armors or scrolls. you can then use these to improve yourself.
::RELEASE::
The game is expected to release somewhere between October 30th to Christmas.
stay tuned as more updates may occur.

A bit like Zelda...? I've never heard any Zelda game being a turn-based RPG...
But hey Jony, the problem you might have with the separate SWFs might be that if you can get armor and new weapons, and the SWFs change after every battle or something, you cannot possibly get your new armor and weapons to the new SWF... If ya get me.

Re: Shortmage: the journey of the underdog
you will collect items after every chapter, so you cannot transfer them. the items you collect and all of that will be on the swf, so you cannot collect items and transfer them. they will be on the second swf with all the stuff. shall i explain more?

Re: Shortmage: the journey of the underdog
Why do you not try having 1 swf that loads the other files when needed, that way all important variables can be stored in the main swf file and then the swf files that get loaded can easily use those variables by using "_root.". You could then also unload swf files once they have been used.
You could also pass variables using javascript but that is a lot more complicated and the above method would be better.
