[Review] Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition (2005)

Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition, a good, solid game or a bad port from it's console brothers? Find out here. As a note: this is my first Midnight Club I've played, so I might be amazed about things that existed in the previous versions too.

Gameplay
The first thing I notice at the game is the horrible loading times. They're absolutely devastating! Usually the loading takes about 60-75 seconds, and your PSP's backlight even goes to power saving mode sometimes when loading. But then, after all the loading, menus, and all hassle is over, you notice why your PSP has been loading like that... The map is truly big. Big is a bad word for it, the map is HUGE. Every race is like that, there are yellow marks scattered around the map and you drive like hell from one to another. Much better system than a tube racing type like all the Need for Speed games. Another really good thing is the customization and the amount of cars available. There are over 30 cars and you can get almost all the tuning parts and customizations immediately. The races are fun, although sometimes you might get a little frustrated because of the enemies keeping up too good. But that only happens with certain enemies, luckily.

Graphics
This is the other part which explains why the game loading times take so long. The graphics are better than I you could expect. WAYY better than you expect. Every detail has been taken carefully into conseration and that makes everything run smooth.

Controls
I don't wanna compare much to NFS games, but this time I have to, since these two game series' have been in serious competition and this time I have to say that the controls are very much better than for example in NFS:MW 5-1-0 which I reviewed. The controls aren't bad in that game, but in this they are better. There is even a menu where to set the controls more or less sensitive, set the drift ration, brake bias and more.

Sounds
There is music for everyone. No matter if you like rap, hip-hop, pop, rock, techno, industrial - there's something for everyone. Car sounds aren't although as good as they could be, they sound almost the same for every car.

Overall
The game loads slow, but it is very big. It is good to play if you aren't in hurry but for bus-trips or something like that just leave this game home.

Gameplay: 9/10
Graphic: 9/10
Controll: 9/10
Originality: 7,5/10
Sound: 8,5/10
Loading times: 5,5/10
Overall: 8/10

Re: [Review] Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition

Hmm, I've only played Burnout Dominator on PSP, and I really like both games, since Burnout has much more game modes, but Midnight Club sets on night and it really has that exellent Underground-type gameplay. I really can't choose myself, I'd just get them both.

If you like very high speeds and multiple fun game modes, but no customization and a few cars, Burnout Dominator is your choice.

If you like night-time underground racing and very much customizations and many cars, but only a few game modes and a slower gameplay (read: not as much crashes) choose Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.
