Exploits for psp? will they go away?

I hopefully think exploits dont go away cause, w/ out em u cant downgrade, i think in a few years they might, because sony will find a way to stop if and we have to stay on a certain oe cause sony will stop oe's, and they will make games for higher version req. to play, id hate this!

2.80> 3.5> 1.5> 3.40 OE-A> 3.51 M33-7> 1.5> 3.40 OE-A> 3.52m33-5> full brick(pandora)> 3.52m33-5> 3.80m33> 3.90m33

Long story

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

Well this is just like this:

Sony's firmware updates will end before 2009. That's a fact. Why update an old system when you could do cool features for the new one and make people buy it?

BUT

There will always be exploits. That's a fact too. NOTHING is safe enough. There are multiple security fixes included in almost every update. That is because Sony has a team trying to find these exploits all the time. In future there might be a "full-exploit-proof" firmware, but still, if you have downgraded earlier, you can always rely on custom firmware makers. Like now. Dark_Alex quit and now we have multiple new custom firmwares (M33, XS, etc.) and I don't think they all will quit just like that. And if they do, more devs will arise.

The community isn't dead.

I don't think it will ever end. If they can't find any more holes in firmware, there will be modchips... But only for as long as the PSP is still somewhat wanted...

And it will be wanted as long as someone hacks the new handhelds (I mean the handhelds that will come, like PSPLite or whatever) somehow, which probably won't happen at least with the new generation of handhelds, since Sony and others have learned a thing or two now wink

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

It will just get harder, but I think it'll always be possible. More difficult things have been hacked in the past I'd think

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

But if all the features stay the same, the possibilty of exploits goes down. Few of the recent exploits (TIFF, MP3) have all been possible in the recent firmwares due to the new features.

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

In theory all it takes is to load a certain script into the memory where it will be executed... Those scripts could be hidden in any file type, and if the PSP doesn't check them carefully before executing you're in basically. All it takes is to find those holes to sneak something in... But ofcourse it's not that easy. But my (quite) limited experience in programming has taught me that the end user can find flaws in just about any programme...

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

I think one exploit was a menu inconsistency which is something minor but it allowed for bigger hacks.

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

Wow, I am so far behind. I haven't been keeping track of all this. Last time I actually checked out stuff on this has got to be the release of the OE-A first release. But that was it.

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

Wow, that was long time ago...
Pandoras battery is a "magic" battery that can install custom firmware or downgrade ANY firmware.
So $ony is screwed now haha!!!! I used pandoras battery to install 3.71 M33 on my psp.

Re: Exploits for psp? will they go away?

Yes I know its a long time ago. I did however install 3.52M33-1

I only tend to play Emus or on the NetBrowser... If I could read Japanese maybe I'll be able to get the PTV working...
