It's both. You can use mouse and keyboard, but it's cooler with the keyboard since you don't have to take your hand off of it at all while playing the game.

Nope, actually they're pretty relevent to the story line. Each sun (big planet that has planets orbiting around them) is a solar system, and each solar system has it's own set of levels. The further you travel from the main one (big orange sun), the harder the levels become.
Also, the game, which will support Newgrounds Medals, will have achievments based on those solar systems. If you complete every level inside of one, you will get a trophy.
