custom firmware recovery
Hiya people. My current firmware is 3.03 but i am however considering to downgrade. One of my friends has already done so and it seemed to work fine but today he told me that he had bricked his psp.
I have heard that it is possible to "unbrick" your psp but i would like to know how this is done, mainly because I am seriously considering the downgrade and would be seriously miffed if i did ruin my psp.
Also, is it possible to re-upgrade to the sony firmware if you wanted to?
thanx people.

Re: custom firmware recovery
Custom firmwares (from 3.xx oe) have a recovery menu - to acces it, you must fully turn off your PSP (fold the power trigger up for 4-5 second), then turn on and immedietly hold the R shoulder button.
Recovery menu works even if your PSP is bricked, it has many functions, but the best one is that you can toggle USB in it. Bricking is a corruption of flash0 files, so you can download uncorruped files, and copy them int your PSP. That's how to unbrick
And yes, It is possible to re-upgrade to sony's firmware. It's easy to return to 1.5 from a OE (Open edition) - easier than downdraging, and then upgrade to a sony firmware.

Re: custom firmware recovery
Thankyou, now could you please provide me with a link to the uncorrupted files? If you could do that for me i would love you for ever (but not in a homo-erotic way).
Danke schön.

Re: custom firmware recovery
You could get them yourslelf - as soon as you get the custon firmware.
just open the recovery menu, select "advance", then toggle USB with flash0 (something like that). Then simply copy all of the files to your PC. Here's your backup!
And another thing. If you're not planning to use Japan languadge on your PSP, you can save a lot of free space in flash0. Open the "font" folder, delete the "jpn0.pgf", then makea copy of a font with a smallest filesize (i used "kr0.pgf"), and rename it to "jpn0.pgf".
Getting more free space is usefull for interface tuning. if you want to, I can write more 'bout that.

Re: custom firmware recovery
I'm interested, but i have heard that playing about with your flash can lead to bricking. If the psp is bricked, then how does the recovery menu come up??? isn't that on the flash aswell?

Re: custom firmware recovery
good good. I've heard of something called a full brick and i know it can't be recovered from but i don't know what sort of thing gives you a full brick.
Also, the friend i mentioned earlier didn't back up his flash. Do you know where he can download some uncorrupted files?
Also, is there a tutorial that you followed to unbrick your psp? because i'm not sure where the files are meant to go etc.

Having my track record I'll avoid fiddling in flash0.

Re: custom firmware recovery
Only bricked twice, semi bricked about 15 times, and all is well today.
My signature? Tis a silly thing to read.
