Re: privat messaging

Hmm, where did you get that from? Pretty sure that text files can be more than 10kb. Especially as html files are essentially text files with a different file extension... And they can be less than one kb. In fact, none of the figures really mean anything?

Re: privat messaging

Text files can be Bs in sizes like 60 bytes.

HTML files are usually slightly bigger 1 - 2kB.

Pictures vary according to compression, canvas size, colours use.

Just a note - HTML can also be just text. So in that case, there is nothing that would make HTML bigger compared to TXT, if they contain the same message and the user wants to get them both working in a browser.

Don't think you understand me - as a html file is text, a browser just interprets the text to display a webpage. The background colour isn't stored in the file as binary data or anything, just by the text

Code:

<body bgcolor="orange">

The only reason that html files are usually bigger than text files is that they contain more text. You write a text file that is a couple of hundred lines long and it'll be the same size as a html file a couple of hundred lines long.

Re: privat messaging

Text:

hi mate

HTML:
<p>hi mate</p>

Thats why html is bigger in size it contains more text. So give it up.

Re: privat messaging

No, Phil is not getting owned. Phil is getting vaguely annoyed that people can't see what's obvious though. If you download this webpage as .html file and rename it as a .txt file it is a text file. If you get a text file and rename it as a .html it is a webpage.

File extensions are arbitrary labels to tell the computer how to handle the file and have nothing to do with file contents or size.

I think Zuriki is agreeing with me anyway.

Re: privat messaging

I am. Phil is right. HTML is text with tags. Read by a browser which then interprets them into a webpage.

Re: privat messaging

HTML and Text whats the difference. In conclusion there is no difference. Just HTML can be interpreted by a web browser into a colourful page with bits of thing and images and stuff. In theory every script is just text but the computer just reads it translates it into something visual, memorizes things and checks for input and output stuff.

Re: privat messaging

Because sfc was determined to try and prove us wrong. So it was ALL-OUT-WAR!!! Nah only kidding. Just trying to make sfc understand that HTML is just text that is translated by a web browser and not some magical text that stores colour and image information.
