The only way to install custom firmware would be pandoras battery (the best) or modchip.

use this guide to get custom firmware on your PSP.
http://www.pspmod.com/forums/psp-hardwa … ethod.html
It works, and you don't need a second PSP. I used to have firmware 3.71, but then I used the guide and now I'm running custom firmware 3.71 M33-3.

So you hardmodded your battery FoShizzle?
You've got two or are you using a loader of some kind?

I haven't got a second battery yet. My PSP is being powered from the charger only. But yeah, I modded the battery. I drained the battery all the way before I modded it, to be safe.

You could use a special loader (I think) that works something like this: when you hold L when starting your PSP, it boots the XMB, if R = recovery menu, if nothing, then it goes to Pandora menu.
Edit: Whoops, a typo. My fault.

Lol, it's playstation PORTABLE... You should really buy a new battery, the third party ones aren't expensive.

And they can even EXPLODE! How cool is that!
Just a link, not saying that it was a third-party battery.

I hardmodded mine as well..but I have a second battery...
Though, once you have homebrew, use the charger and install Time Machine. If you use a memory stick with that installed, than you can boot up normally while using the modded battery. Thats all I know of.
My signature? Tis a silly thing to read.

Re: psp newbie w/ 3.80 needs help....
I'm so confused with this stuff... Do you have to take your battery out every time you turrn it off? OrIs it like a regular psp, wehn you turn it on, it loads into CFW?

Re: psp newbie w/ 3.80 needs help....
It works like this: you just install DCv5 to your memory stick and then make your battery a Pandora. Then you choose the button you want to use while booting up your PSP to go to the DC menu. If you choose L for example, then when you boot up the PSP it will go to the XMB and work like a regular PSP. But if you want to go to the DC menu for TimeMachine/unbricking/backup purposes you just hold L while booting up the PSP.

Re: psp newbie w/ 3.80 needs help....
One more thing...when I used my Pandora and my Magic Mem, after I get the CFW, do I still use the pandora, or do I need to use another battery?

Re: psp newbie w/ 3.80 needs help....
you need to use another battery as the pandora is a recovery mode battery now just like a recovery disc for pc's...
