Christmas trouble (working title)

Right now i finished spriting for a while to work on a new game.
This is going to be a remake of an old game, don't remeber the name righ now tongue , where you were running left and right with a big gun charged with a harpoon  gangster
and shooted at giant bouncing balls to cut them in 2 pieces.
This one will be pretty similar,only slight gameplay changes.
It will be released somewhere around chrismas, but i'll post a demo soon. Since i'm kinda unexperienced in gamemaking, i will need some AS coding tips smile

santahat

Here are the avaliable alpha and beta versions of the game:
Christmas Trouble alpha 0.1
Christmas Trouble alpha 0.2
Christmas Trouble alpha 0.35
Christmas Trouble alpha 0.4
Ow, and how about adding more chrismas smilies?

Bubble truble is the remake of that game too =P. And yes, I'm making it for PSP

2 dogydude:
I made only 1 game, it runs on a simple engine, this one needs an advanced one.
Right now i'm working on it. smile

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

emm. is it possible to make attachments to posts on this forum? Kuz photobucket has changed it's flash preview window, making it look crappy. you can still download it, but the main impression is ruined.

Ok, i started, and not very happy with the framerate - it's ok whe you're standing, but when moving... I may do somethings to make it faster, but i'm not shure if it will save the situation.

This version has1 big ball and 2 medium ones, and a walking santa. No shooting, sorry.

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

It seems fun so far, can you add jumping?

By the way, you may have only made one game, but It is alot more than most people in the world have made! I have only made one flash movie, and all it is is a pencil moving from left to right! lol.

Afraid you can't post attachments onto the forum, which is why I set up the user FTP account... I seem to remember you saying that you couldn't upload FTP files for some reason - why?

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

It has to work.. I don't know why it shouldn't. I've been using an extension for firefox lately. It's called fireFTP. It's the best freeware ftp program I've found so far and it just runs on a tab in your firefox browser. You should check it out.

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

Wow, it's surprizinly fast with low quality!
New alpha! tot much new content, now you can shoot with X (It takes 2 clicks to fire the first time), and destroy the balls (without doubling them right now)
If you use a psp, lower the quality by clicking the moon.
Now i'm working on making the shooting disabeled when the harpoon is still in the air.
So, here's it:
Christmas Trouble alpha 0.2

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

I just tested it and I like it. Figure out a way to put the set the standard quality to low and this should work ^^

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

If you can connect to the internet, you should be able to use ftp, it's a protocol just the same as http. At a guess, i'd say that you've probably got some firewall software blocking the ports required for the connection - try disabling it first. If not, then you're probably not setting up the connection profile properly.

As for the actionscript - you can attach movie clips with the attachMovie code, and just use button.enabled = false; to disable the button whilst the harpoon is in the air?

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

I don't get it. Now i can shoot i time, but then nothing happens (the button is disabled). The harpoon is a MC that has an animation of it shooting upwards, has a "stop();" action in the first frame:

Code:

on (release) {
        _root.harp._x = _root.santa._x;
        _root.harp.play();
        _root.santa.gotoAndStop("stand");
    if (_root.harp._currentframe == 1) {
        enabled = true;
    } else {
        enabled = false;
    }
}

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

it looks like the button is no longer enabled. This is because the code runs just once on the release therefore it is never enabled again. Try adding code to the first frame of the "harp" movie clip that sets the enabled property and this should then work.

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

didn't i do that with

Code:

if (_root.harp._currentframe == 1){
    enabled = true;
}

?

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

No because that code will only run on a button pres so will run on the first release and therefore the value will never be reset as the movie clip will go back to frame 1 and the else code will never run.

Re: Christmas trouble (working title)

big_smile
Silly me!
I'm used to Movieclips, and i forgot that the "if" action of mine would ony work when the button is pressed. So, i should place this in the main frame?

Code:

if (_root.santa._currentframe == 1) {
     buttonsinstancename.enable = true;
}
