Custom firmware 3.51 M33!

Just came out today, some russian coders say that they have a new custom firmware, called 3.51 M33. I haven't got so much time to investigate this just yet, but it seems to be legit! Homebrew scene is not dying if this is really the case.

PSPUpdates said this yesterday:

Some Russian coders going by the name Team M33 have released PSP firmware CFW v3.51 M33, to the delight of PSP owners everywhere. This pretty much means more homebrew for more people.

All of the functions the v3.51 firmware have been retained in this release including PS1 support, high video resolution, MP3 visualizer, and Internet navigation. You can also expect to be able to launch official UMDS which require v3.51 firmware which is pretty good considering the sizable libraries some people have collected. For those who want more, the firmware also allows direct launching of ISOs/CSOs, homebrews, and PS1 images.

Here are some of the other features you might want to know:

    * Ability to alter the CPU speed of the PSP
    * Recovery mode
    * Multi-region
    * Customize all your icons and more

The instructions for installation are in a file called readme.en which you can open using any text-file editor. If you're doing this for the first time, please be careful since custom firmware could possibly brick your PSP, so remember to read the instructions completely and follow it to the letter. That said, enjoy the PSP firmware CFW v3.51 M33.

Wow, this is really cool, check it out yourself: http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-custom-fir … /aid/97481

People seem to complain about certain features of this firmware, but hey, this is just the first one made by Team M33.

Re: Custom firmware 3.51 M33!

Hi again! I updated to this firmware, and I really got to say that these guys have really reverse engineered or 'hacked' Dark_Alex's 3.40 OE-a firmware, since this at first look just a modified version of 3.40 OE-A with 3.51 games support. And there are bad things instead, well don't get me wrong, not too bad things but you can't currently change the themes or mess with flash0, otherwise your PSP is bound to crash. And you can't play homebrew games over the net (AFKIM, CSCA, Quake v2...) - bad to someone maybe.

Well right now I won't courage anyone to jump to 3.51 M33 just yet, there are still many bugs and currently are only about 5 games which require firmware above 3.40 -- BUT if you are using 1.5 or you are about to downgrade, THEN this is a must have, but 3.03 - 3.40 OE-A users: Don't go through all the hassle just yet!

We'll see now... When Sony comes up with 4.00-> and 4.00 M33 comes out, then we're talking!

As a sidenote, I'm gonna admit one thing, can these M33 guys really program or was this 3.51 M33 just a modified version of 3.40 OE-A only with 3.51 support or will we see "No-UMD" features or new hacks in the future? Or is this just something really weird since there is over 1MB of free space in flash0, when 3.40 OE-A luckily had even 300KB! I don't wanna say anything bad about these guys or russians at all, it just seems a little fishy to me, atleast these guys could have told us all why there are certain odd things.

So, i should not upgrade to this firmwire? I'm still on 3.40 OE-A. Anyways, i'm coming home from mallorca tomorrow. It was nice here!

Wow... Eleven hours. What happened there? Earthquake? Hurricane? Taifun? Plane crash in the airport?

But no matter what, good that you're back.

Lol, no. It was some technical problems to the plane. It was NordicFly's fault...
