Site Upgrades

Hi Guys,

For a long time now I've been wanting to re-work this site and make it more awesome. There are a bunch of things that I'm thinking of, mostly behind the scenes, but a large part would be opening up more of the main site for you guys - in other words, allowing 'trusted' members to write content for the main site.

Things I was think of are:

- Game reviews (both commercial and flash)
- Polls (running a monthly poll)
- News about recent PSP / Flash related events
- Tutorials on specifics such as how to write flash games, design graphics, anything relevant to the site
- E-mailed Newsletter & RSS feeds covering the above updates
- A 'submit' page to automate putting games up on the site, after moderation.

What do people think? Would any of you be keen to get involved with writing any of these kinds of things? I'd love to get the site to live on beyond the forum a bit more! smile

Phil

Re: Site Upgrades

ps. The update would also include a complete overhaul of the forum - all existing content would obviously be kept, but stuff like the ChatBox which is never really used will probably be dropped. I might put in a general shoutbox to replace this (the emphasis on casual chat whenever, rather than live chat)

I might move to phpBB instead of punBB, and include extras such as Karma for members (if you help people out with questions then they can award you with karma). Also allowing members to attach images and swfs to posts rather than having to link from external websites, see when other users are online, whatever you guys would like really.

Re: Site Upgrades

Sweet, there hasn't been much new content around the main page that often, so I think this will be a great idea!

I am able to help with anything, so give me a shout if you need anything. smile

I would LOVE to see an upgrade, this is a great idea. We might get some more members this way.

Re: Site Upgrades

Quick update - I've been thinking about the site, and I'm going to essentially re-write it from scratch. I'll move servers too, so hopefully less of these 'technical hiccups' will happen. Don't worry though - all existing content will be preserved.

For anyone who's interested, we're going to change from PunBB forums to phpBB, and change from a hand-written website front end to a highly customised install of wordpress.

I'm going to start developing it in the background for now, then when it's ready I'll probably take the site down for a weekend to port it across and get through any teething problems.

Get keen!

Re: Site Upgrades

Sweet, It'll be cool to be able to actually submit things! That's what I'm really looking forward to.

I'll be wary of any downtime in the future. smile

Re: Site Upgrades

You should add a cheat code section.

Re: Site Upgrades

Just turned off BBCodes in signatures as loads of people were using them for advertising. Hope that's ok - if a lot of people aren't happy with this I'll reinstate them.

I wonder if there is a way to disable the URL Tag Only, to still let users customize their signature. If not Im Ok with no BBcode on signatures wink
